Facebook isn’t jumping on the data portability train. Instead, they want to keep their data to themselves and not allow other parties to transport data from a third party site like a blog to Facebook. Facebook sees Google’s Friend Connect as a Google controlled middleman that could reap benefit from their position as a data gateway.
Facebook wants to control their users data and made a statement about privacy as an issue. Guess they missed that point when Beacon was launched. It just seems that Facebook doesn’t want to play well with others and is heading down a slippery slope. Just imagine if Facebook is the only large network not to allow updates through a service like Friend Connect.
Seems like a fight that I wouldn’t want to fight as new entrants pop up everyday.
